A little bit about me

I am the second of 4 daughters, with lots of cousins, so growing up I was always surrounded by kids. As such, I took a natural liking to tending for the younger ones and that passion has grown since.
I find great joy in the outdoors and believe it to be critical in the development of children to spend time in nature/outdoors.
In addition to childcare, I developed a passion for understanding people and earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology as to aid my understanding of both children and adults.
Some of my additional interests include painting, reading, and spending time with my 2 cats and husband.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Childcare has always been a passion of mine. When I was 12, I began volunteering in the childcare room at Church, and also babysitting.
As a young adult I began providing private childcare and worked in Early Education centers. My responsibilities as a Lead Teacher included overseeing a classroom of 6-8 toddlers (aged 1.5-2 years) and cultivating a healthy and educational environment. Weekly themes revolved around age-appropriate activities to encourage physical and mental development.

Throughout my time providing private childcare I have cared for 4 families. While working with these families my responsibilities included picking children up at school/bus stops, taking children to/from afterschool extracurricular activities, providing academic assistance, curating developmentally appropriate activities to enrich the lives of the children, and provide light housework duties.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

On the days when it's nice out, I love using chalk to engage in various creative play. From drawing items to identify (shapes, letters, etc.) to creating an "obstacle" course, there's much you can do. In addition I support physical development by balancing between fine and gross motor activities. Such as picking up objects with fingers vs climbing.
While indoors I'm a big fan of reading/letter work, music, and art based activities. Screentime is limited to under 30 minutes, and must be educational.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Ensuring the child/children are receiving genuine care and that you are aiding in the advancement of their development while also helping them figure out the world/themselves.

My experience with special needs children...

As a Specialized Nanny, my responsibilities of caretaking for a level 3 child of the Autism Spectrum have included creating and implementing an organization system for toys/play areas, create and engage in educational activities to aid in advancing academic abilities, identifying child’s needs and helping them learn to safely express/process emotions, helping with behavioral difficulties during transitions, getting the child on and off the school bus, going to the nearby park, light household cleaning, bath time, changing diapers/pull-ups, assist/implement potty training, naptime management, and mealtimes.

The most important part about being a nanny...

For me personally, I can't think of one favorite moment, because it's more like a bunch of little moments that shine like stars in the night sky. I love getting to see the skill development progress being made in children.
For example, when I began working with a 3 year old boy on the Spectrum he was completely non-communicative, now (3 years later) he effectively uses his PECKS booklet to communicate with us about his needs. Having witnessed the change and impact being able to communicate has had on his emotional well-being has been beyond rewarding. There's no feeling like it.
