A little bit about me

I just graduated from Chapman University with a BA in early childhood education and disability studies. I have always known I wanted to work with children and love helping children thrive and improve their cognitive and social developmental skills. I have worked as a babysitter for 10 years and a live-in nanny since 2015. I have experience with children of all ages. As well as a background working with children with ASD. I have also worked as an assistant teacher/floater for a preschool in Brooklyn, NY. I want to create a fun and playful environment while stimulating the children intellectually. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked at Open House Nursery School in Brooklyn, NY. I started volunteering there when I was 13 and as I got older assisted the teachers more formally. I was a mothers helper around the age of 12 and soon moved on to formal babysitting. For five years I have also worked as a live-in nanny for a family. I was a live-in nanny when the children were 2 months and 3 years old, I worked with them as they grew up and still remain very close to their family. I worked with them for 9 years, 5 of which I was a live-in nanny during summers.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Stories, reading allowed them as well as helping them in their progress to be independent readers. I love playing all games, imaginary or bored games. I try to keep the children off of technology when I am with them. I love taking them to parks and libraries. I find it important to make all learning activities feel like games. I love to do arts and crafts and build forts to play in. During the summer months, going to the beach and helping children to swim is a fun and vital activity. Going on playdates and interactions with other children their age is not only important for their cognitive and social development but everyone enjoys making friends. If a child is of school age, I am more than willing to assist them with homework. For example, homework assignments such as math can be stressful but creating fun and interactive ways to solve problems can take away from the pressure of the assignment. I want every child to feel supported and loved.

My experience with special needs children...

My minor in college was disability studies, which led me to write my thesis about the use of mindfulness and meditation techniques for children with Autism. I am comfortable and used to the tools of mindfulness. I have babysat a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder from the time he was an infant to his current age of 5. He is non-verbal but that never hindered the amount of fun and learning we did together. I minored in disability studies. Which gave me the tools to work with children with disabilities to make them flourish in their environment. My major and minor prepared me by giving me the instruments to adapt to different learning styles for every child.
