More About Me
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Indoor activities that are a big hit with kids are things like DIY craft projects. I find that it is more fun to tailor it to the season (like Thanksgiving for example), that way they also know that it's only displayed during that holiday or event, and look forward to the next season's projects.
Depending on their age we could do some baking together.
Build Lego sets and blanket forts.
Working on puzzles, board, and card games.
Simply science experiments.
Interactive story time where we make props or puppets.
I also play the piano and have given lessons to kids, if you have a keyboard for me to use.
For outdoor activities, I enjoy doing little nature walks, bike/scooter rides, and rollerblading. Frisbee, or ball games. Chalk art or chalk games.
Bug hunting (some kids love it some kids hate it).
Backyard or neighborhood park picnics.

My experience with special needs children...
My twin brother has Down syndrome, and growing up, my family often joked that I was more like a second mom than a big sister. Since he graduated from high school in 2015 and no longer has access to professional therapy, we've noticed a decline in his speech abilities. While it’s been challenging for others to understand him, the most difficult part for him has been the frustration of not being able to express himself clearly. Over the past year and a half, I’ve been working closely with him on simple speech exercises to help him practice and remember how to pronounce difficult words. It’s incredibly rewarding to see him reach each milestone and gain more confidence and pride in his ability to communicate.
I also have a nephew with ASD and another nephew who was non-verbal for several years, so I’ve gained valuable experience in adapting to their individual needs and finding ways to help them express themselves in ways that feel comfortable for them.

The most important part about being a nanny...
A few years ago, I worked as a live-in nanny for a wonderful couple in Bellevue, WA, who unexpectedly found themselves with a newborn while both parents were working full-time. I moved in to help care for their 10-year-old and 3-month-old sons, and I stayed with them for two years, until they moved to eastern WA.
During my time with the family, I formed a close bond with both the children and parents, and it was gratifying to be involved in the kids' milestones.
My favorite moment with this family was being there for the baby's first steps. At the time I was going to a weekly bible study group and I often brought the baby along when his older brother was at his friend's house. One time after going for a few weeks, my friends got a video of the baby taking his first steps to me, it was the cutest and sweetest moment to be a part of.

Full-Time Child Care Provider Available in Bellingham, WA: Joyita S.
My name is Joyita but I go by Joy, I am 18 years old and I am currently in the process of getting my GED certification. I have only ever worked in food service so this will be a new experience for me but I am very adaptable to change and I have a passion for learning and taking on new challenges! I would love to work with kids because I honestly just enjoy spending time with them, they remind me to be kind to everyone and that its okay to laugh and not be so serious all the time and I think everyone needs that once in a while. I also used to take care of my younger cousins for many years throughout my childhood so although I lack the professional knowledge, I do have the skills. I’m always open to constructive criticism and if I am chosen to work with you I promise to give it 100% of my best!
