I worked with the Boys and Girls Club of America in Bend, Oregon before and all through out the pandemic. We took on the responsibility of helping our members navigate remote learning and kept them engaged for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I specifically worked with 1st, 3rd and 5th grade members.

My last nanny job I cared for two young girls. The youngest girl, Summer was five years old and very shy. Her mother signed her up for gymnastics and I was responsible for taking her to practice. Every week for the first several weeks ,Summer refused to join the group. She was terrified and we spent the entire class sitting in the lobby watching the other girls. Each week I told her that we would try again next week and that I believed that she would join the class when she felt ready. My favorite nanny moment was the week Summer finally worked up the courage to join the class and meet the other girls. She was beaming from ear to ear after class and I felt so proud of her for overcoming her fears. I hoped that if I was supportive, offered gentle encouragement and continued to give her the opportunity to be brave, Summer would eventually see what she was missing out on and allow herself to venture outside of her comfort zone.
