A little bit about me

Mother of 4 grown children and previous nurse looking to earn some extra money while I am here in Tennessee. I hail from Delaware where I raised my 24 daughter who is a double major college graduate along with my 3 boys. Two of my boys ages 20 & 19 are currently in college and on the Dean's List at Salisbury University, while my youngest son 17 is finishing his senior year before starting at Tennessee Tech. Previously I worked in the nursing field before suffering an injury, but never lost my love of caring for people. That is what brought me here to Tennessee, a old friend needed help after an accident. They are currently on the mend and do not require as much assistance. I consider education, manners, and family to be of the upmost importance and take great pride in my ability to impart these qualities while still having fun and developing a trusted relationship.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am a mother of 4 grown children, and assisted in caring for my sisters child, and my 3 godsons. All my life I have been taking care of children being the older sister with 2 younger siblings and the eldest cousin in a large family. The home in which I raised my children was always the hangout spot so I have watched not only my own but also any child who found their way into my home and my heart.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am a 43 woman who was raised mostly by my grandparents so I'm a bit old school. Reading is fundamental and I enjoy sharing the love I have for it with children. Nowadays children spend to much time in front of a screen and while a good movie is a great activity to snuggle up and get kiddie cuddles kids also need stimulation. I enjoy a good ole fashion boardgame or cards, taking hikes, drawing with sidewalk chalk, swimming, playing catch, etc. Having 4 children I know the value in not only keeping their brains and bodies active, but also wearing them out so they can get a good night's sleep.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Getting to be a part of a young person's life and creating a safe and happy environment that they hopefully carry with them into the future.

My experience with special needs children...

One of my sons is on the spectrum and is diagnosed ADHD, ODD, OCD, and Germophobic. Many of these diagnoses presented at a very young age, and were taught that they were a part of him but not all of him. I never let him believe it act as though it was an excuse or a hindrance in his ability to do or be anything. Today my son is 19 in his second year of college, on the Dean's List, and manages his differences with a routine, notes, and the reassurance that he is capable of handling anything if we can just talk it through and figure out the best way forward for him. I have also had nursing experience with children who suffered more extreme physical aliments such as brain damage, feeding issues, delayed speech and self care, feeding issues, colostomy, catheter, outbursts, and more.

The most important part about being a nanny...

While reading A Giraffe and a Half with the animation in my voice my grandfather instilled in me one of the children I cared for with delayed speech suddenly started saying the words with me. His mother was in the adjoined room having just come home from work and the look on her face as her son bust into laughter after saying the last verse was priceless.
