A little bit about me

While I have no paid experience as a nanny, I have raised five kids of my own and I know a lot about children bc of that. I love children and I can relate to them. I enjoy being around them and find them interesting bc of their natural zeal for life and the things around them. I am a 49 year old grandmother of 4. My happiest times are when I'm around my grandbabies. They make me laugh... and sometimes cry( bc I love them so much). I think I would be good at any childcare job. Kids love me as well. They don't know what to think of me at times but they always want to be around me again. Although I like to be their friend as well, I do know that at times I will have to be stern with them and establish rules and routines. I will also have times of teaching by 'playing school' with your children as I did my own and also read them a bedtime story as I did my own children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Making sure the children are safe and know their boundaries. You have to establish rules as well as allow them to just be kids sometimes. They have to understand that there is a time for playtime and there's a time to get serious and mind your P's & Q's. And they need to know they are loved and cared for. They need constant praise when doing good and stern steadfast discipline when doing bad. They don't know any better and have to be taught how to behave. I do believe in allowing them to just be kids sometimes though. When they have been good for a time, they deserve a reward.

My experience with special needs children...

I have a special needs child that I raised. She is only mildly intellectually disabled but I learned from her that it's not easy to deal with but I learned with patience and understanding it's not that difficult to get on their level and create a relationship where we understand each other and can progress and learn from each other

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are too many to count. Children can be a joy. To some they are a nuisance. Although there are going to be aggravating moments, most of the time I spend with them are a joy and learning experience.
