A little bit about me

I am an exceptional mother of seven children and eight grandchildren. I started supervised babysitting at the age of seven. I've also raised a child with special medical needs. Through this experience, I've had prior training in CPR, learned from therapists in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. Learning milestones and age-appropriate activities has been a hands-on experience. Taking care of babies comes natural to me and I love it. I've been praised for the care that I give to my children, even as adults. I practice biblical faith in all my actions. I have a love for biology and learned first aid years ago through those courses. I am creative, love art, dance, poetry, acting, crafts, cooking, gardening, and more. I grew up with dogs, but I have two tuxedo kittens that are spoiled and think they are human. I'm friendly, observant, and enjoy teaching the skills I have learned to help others. I believe training up a child is the best legacy one can leave behind.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I've cared for infants since I was seven years old. Yes, cousins. I've nurtured and cared for my own seven children which I had over a span of 22 years. I've mentored my "daughters-in-love" in how to care for their new infants, my grandchildren. I have taught as an assistant preschool teacher in public and private school. I also have experience taking care of a child, newborn through adulthood, with special cognitive and medical needs. I've babysat for a family that was bilingual and managed to communicate with both parents, one in English, one in Spanish.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

With infants, I love observing them and tending to their every need so that they are comfortable, satisfied, stimulated by the new world around them, and feel safe. As appropriate, I like to interest them with objects that they will track with their eyes. I like to hum a melody to them or play music that stimulates their wonder. Each month brings a new adventure in play as they grow so fast. A baby's laugh and smile are priceless. When age appropriate, I love being creative with art, music, dance, and crafts. Every fun activity is a learning experience and I like to see children learn through play. I love to read children's books with animated voice. I enjoy walks and outdoor activities if weather permits. Some toddler activities could be water play in a sprinkler, a swing, trikes, play dough, puzzles, cars, tea time, doll houses, cooking, finger painting, hands-on exploring of all sorts of textures, just to name a few.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I enjoy seeing a child learn, grow, and blossom into everything they were created to be. To share in instilling love, good manners, and confidence into a child is a blessing. Likewise, it is a blessing to assist parents in the journey of parenthood so that they too can live out their heart's desire and have well cared for children.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for a child with a cognitive disorder, spina bifida, seizures, hydrocephalus, anxiety, and depression. I've cared for a child with texture sensitivities, abdominal migraines, asthma, and allergies. I've lived with someone who was a juvenile diabetic and understand diabetes management. I cared for a child who required open wound care.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I traveled out of state to help my son and his wife with their first baby. I was advising them on how to burp the baby in between feedings since the little guy was fussy. My daughter-in-love in one memorable moment gave up after trying to burp the baby for quite a while with no success. She said, "here," reaching her arms out to give me the baby. I reached for the baby and as he was released and in my grasp for only two seconds, he let out a big burp. She laughed at the idea that only my touch would produce the desired result. She chuckled as she told her baby thanks. Her father who was present as well, said to me, you are soo good with babies. That moment sparked the beginning of a new journey for me.
