More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have babysat for my neighbor's kids at times and have worked in my church nursery during Sunday services for several years. That is in addition to the two children of my own that I have raised into healthy, happy adults, now with their own lives.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love educational activities that are age appropriate. For little ones, coloring while we talk is good. A little older, I like to do school-type activities, such as adding and subtracting. I also like to talk about words, how some words came to be such as the word buzz or the word hum. That said, every child loves to run and play so everything isn't educationally driven. Many times playing at a play ground or in a back yard, just throwing a frisbee or a ball around is great fun and exercise.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I raised my two children by myself. For me, their safety and security, when I was at work, was of paramount importance. Now that I am older and my kids are grown, I would love to "give back," and alleviate that concern that all good parents have. I would like to remove that concern from them and have them feel there is a grandmotherly person getting them ready for school in the morning and waiting for them when they get home. When parents both work, the last thing they need is to worry or wonder about what is going on with their precious children. My feeling is - it is okay for the parents to miss their kids during the day, but it is not okay for them to have to worry about them. I want parents that I support to feel that their children are in capable hands.
My experience with special needs children...
I once drove a bus for special needs adults and children. I learned so very much. Everyone deserves respect and kindness and these special needs children were the best! They looked forward to me picking them up! It was very humbling, but other than that, I can't say that I have worked closely with special needs children. I have talked and listened, and laughed and encouraged, but, really not too much more than that.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My nephew's son had a speech impediment. For "ghost," he'd say "rosie." He always wanted to hear "rosie" stories.
