A little bit about me

Hello, I'm Destiny. I have recently changed careers from 20 years graphic designing and retail experience to being a nanny, which i have discovered a huge passion for. I decided to become a nanny because I'm really ready for grandchildren but my boys aren't ready to be parents. I have 2 grown boys so I do have hands on loving experience. I currently have a Nanny position with 2 girls ages 8&10 in Middleton. Right now it's summer hours with them, usually 8am-5pm. I am looking for a position in the mornings when the girls go back to school in September. I would really love a chance to talk and find out more about your kids and see if we are a good fit. I live in Sun Prairie so I'm close. I am CPR and first aid certified for adults and infants. I actually have background checks and reviews on Care.com and my current boss would give you a review as well.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have 2 years paid experience. I currently nanny 2 girls. My responsibilities change on a daily basis. Both of them have LOTS of activities during the summer.
• I help the parents with taking and picking up the girls for their various activities and camps.
• Between events I keep the girls busy with chores their parents want them to do. I play a variety of games, including a great deal of make believe. Lots and lots of crafts. I am a graphic designer so I love arts and crafts. We go to the library, parks, zoo, childrens museums and farmers market. We also go on picnics ( this usually happens when we go trail hiking). I also love to bake with the girls as well.
• Sometimes I makes lunch and dinner
• I do the girls laundry.
• Occasionally when I start really early in the morning I help get them ready for the day.
• I do a little light housework.
They also have a elderly dog that wears a diaper that I keep eye on.
I'm CPR (adult and infant) and first aid certified

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I like working with kids because they are endlessly curious. I love going to parks, walks, to the zoo. I've taken kids apple and strawberry picking. The festivals all around Wisconsin in the summer. Petting zoos are endlessly fun with kids. I also have a BA in graphic design so there will be arts and crafts. I also taught art classes to children 20 years ago but it all still applies. I love to bake and cook with kids. Playing outside games, going on picnics, it's really endless.

The most important part about being a nanny...

This is a deceptively easy question. I think it is ensuring the safety and health of your charges. But it's more than that. You also need to ensure that they are happy and emotionally supported. It's not that you are just watching them and feeding them, anyone can do that. What are they learning, feeling, and thinking? Have you made their lives better by being it it?

My experience with special needs children...

The younger girl I nanny had Down syndrome and occasionally needs extra help in her day to day. Which includes helping her get dressed and morning/evening bathroom routine.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Okay well I have lots of stories I could tell you but the one that pops into my mind first is when I was watching my niece and nephew one summer with my own boys and my nephew did not like reading. Didn't like it at all and was very pouty all the time when we went to the library. One of the activities I planned for him was to read books and then he needed to tell me what it was about and he really was not happy about this at all but I just wouldn't give in. So I put him to bed, gave him his book and told him that it was his time to read it. I checked in on him in about a half an hour later and he had fallen asleep with a book open across his face it was the funniest thing I ever seen.
