Making sure the children's needs are met and they feel heard. The most vital part of childcare is mutual ground, in my opinion. I don't want to be seen as an overbearing authority, I want to be a trusted friend that the kid(s) can talk to and have mutual respect.
My experience with special needs children...
I was a babysitter for a 4 year old with down syndrome, I was a temporary care taker for him but I learned a lot in my time with him. Special needs children have their own ways of communicating their needs and wants and it's all about learning their personalities and what does and doesn't work.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I was the nanny for 2 kids, ages 7 and 10, and they treated me like I was a part of their family and were genuinely excited when I would come over to watch them. I love being a friend that kids can look forward to hanging out with and learning from as opposed to old stereotype of bland and mean authority figure nanny
