A little bit about me

Hi, I love working with kids. I had my own in-home child care for 6 years. I cared for 5 children at a time and truly loved seeing them reach milestones, develop their personalities, and try new things. I worked at my church with children for 20 years caring for children from 18 months old to 18 years old (not at the same time). I have raised 5 children, 4 with special needs. All of my kids are grown, and my grandchildren are getting older (they're in elementary school). I miss the days of watching them grow and develop into little people and watching the excitement in their eyes as they experience the world for the first time.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Running youth programs at church. I was in charge of planning the activities, logistics, and making sure that we always kept things kid-centered.
I am a swim instructor, and particularly like working with children with special needs.
My daughter had twins and had this to say "I don't know how I could have done it without you. You really stepped up as a parent to my kids, and I'll always feel the love you infused into every hour of slugging it out together".

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Swimming, playing on the floor, reading, coloring, building forts, blocks, singing.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being kind and loving. It is important to me that you can rely on me. Making sure the children are safe at all times. Engaging with them in activities that are age appropriate and that they enjoy.

My experience with special needs children...

4 of my children have special needs. One daughter has ADHD, the other one has MID and autism. My one son has Bi-polar and my other has FAS. I am also helping raise my grandsons, one of which is ADHD.
I am familiar with IEP meetings, therapy, the works.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Danny from church! Each Sunday we would highlight the children with birthdays by having them stand up front and we'd sing the special birthday song to them (different from Happy Birthday) and they would get a lollypop. EVERY Sunday for 6 months, when we would ask "does anyone have a birthday this week?" Little Danny's hand would shoot up. Each week I would say "NO, not yet". Finally the day came. We started the meeting and Danny was nowhere to be seen. I couldn't believe it. They went out of town for his birthday. I told the group that "Danny wasn't here aaaaand It's his birthday!!!!" They roared with laughter, and we celebrated him the following week. He loved hearing about what had happened while he was away.
