Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been a nanny twice, one live in & one live out. I have several years working with 2 year olds in a daycare setting. I worked at a group home for teen girls. I have also been a surrogate twice.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I am a very artistic person so I love doing lots of crafts. When the weather is nice I also enjoy taking the children for walks or swimming. I love doing fun little science projects, allowing for hands on learning. I love taking them on little trips to the aquarium or museums, anything that gives them new experiences & helps them to learn in a fun way. My main goal is just to make every day have a fun moment, whether big or small.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important part is to remember that you are one of their rocks in life. They are looking to you as a source of comfort & as a compass on how to handle things. That means I have to be consistent, confident in my decisions & be organized, but I also need to be gentle, patient, open minded & most of all, make them feel safe. Children thrive much better when they feel safe, and as their nanny I am a part of creating that environment. They are little humans who are learning & growing, who have thoughts & opinions, who have good & bad days. And I need to approach each one in a way that makes them feel confident & safe at all times.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for children with AdHD & autism, as well as PTSD & bipolar. I am open to learning about any others in order to provide the best care for your little ones.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have a few, but I think my favorite moment was when the mother texted me to let me know that they'd found shoes at the store that looked like the ones I always wore & her daughter absolutely refused to leave without them because she wanted to be "just like Eli!". It was really sweet to know that she & I had developed such a strong bond that she wanted to be like me.
