A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Elise, and I am 21 years old. I have a daughter who is 10 months old and have enjoyed her every step of the way. Aside from motherhood, my experience consists of volunteering at church nursery since I was 12 (I was always eager to take care of babies+silly toddlers), working at an early learning center in town for a year (working with infants, toddlers, and preschool separately), and doing private nannying for three family’s. I have learned so much about kids and development from the job I worked as well as from my mother-in-law Holly Curto who ran her own high quality daycare for 20 years. I’m looking to do occasional day time care Mondays and Tuesdays (with some flexibility on certain weeks), as well as date nights here and there.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I used to be a cheerleader and have worked hard on my tumbling skills so I absolutely love to teach kids what I know. I love seeing and encouraging them to try, and I love seeing their confidence grow after finding how capable they truly are. I also really like drawing with kids and painting activities like that. Going on nature walks and making leaf bouquets are always a fun way to spend time and grow their creative confidence. Reading a fun counting book with kids who like books is special as well. I also like having kids help with chores and baking, they just wanna do what big people do early on, they sparkle when they get to try what they see you do and hear you praise them for it.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is letting the kids talk all they want. Just because I'm older doesn't mean I shouldn't listen and make them feel important and smart. Because if they don't get that time to speak to you, you don't bond and thus won't have a good relationship. I want the kids I nanny for to feel like they can talk to me and communicate openly whenever they feel the need to.
Of course that mostly applies to the older ones, for those who can't speak all I can say is that they just need love. And food, you can't forget that.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for a few preschool students who had ADHD with support from our director at the day care place, and a few suspected autistic children. However I am not certified in caring for this category of children. Although they are super sweet and special especially when they trust you.

The most important part about being a nanny...

When the 10 year old girl from the family me and my mother nannied for came up to me whole at the park and said that she finally got all the way up this branch in a tree.
My other favorite moment was also my least favorite. When we said goodbye the day before we moved to Idaho in August. It broke my heart saying goodbye, but that was the beauty of it. We had grown so close and had so much fun together, it was amazing to know that I had been a positive influence in her life and that she cared about me too.
