A little bit about me

I first began teaching school-aged children in 1999, when I was hired to fill a year-long vacancy as social studies teacher at Cedarwood school..
I'm a movement educator for adults and children in downtown Covington since 2006. I am also a published short story & non fiction writer, and I have a masters degree history from Tulane university.
I am open to babysitting, occasional tutoring in relevant subjects, and I'm also open to part-time nanny work.
I have been performing movement storytime programs in libraries throughout Louisiana since 2006 , I co created an award winning movement & Storytime DVD series and curriculum in 2009. I have a broad skill set that includes creative work, outdoor activities, cooking, & more. Curiosity is a driving force of my nature.
Working with kids has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my professional life, and I remain in touch with many of my students even after they outgrow my programs and head off to college.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

As a mother, I cared for my own child. Who is now in his 20s.
From 1999 to 2000 I taught sixth grade social studies at Cedarwood school.
Since 2006 I've been doing movement storytime performances for libraries all around Louisiana as part of their summertime reading programs. These areinclusive of all ages.
I've been teaching children Yoga since 2006 and Aerial since 2018. - age range runs from 6 to 17. I also do Mom and knee classes.
I co- created a movement & storytime DVD series that won several awards and an accompanying curriculum in the years 2009 to 2010.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Story time, physical play time whether we dance, play on a swingset or in a park, collect leaves and rocks, create our own obstacle course, ride a bike, etc. I do a lot of physical activity with children. It's part of my work. Creative play can involve ready-made toys or items improvised from the environment that are age-appropriate. I like to follow a child's natural curiosity but also I am in tune with when a child needs direction or a more restful activity versus full on active play.

My experience with special needs children...

I'm not sure what special needs encompasses nowadays. It's a broad term. I have experience working with neurodivergent children would be the term I would use. Kids on the autism and ADHD spectrum. I would say in the mild range.
