More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked as a caregiver for 3 children with Down syndrome, after this I worked as a team member in the day care center with ARHS (Appalachian Regional HC System). During my summers at ASU I worked for 6 weeks with ABLE Rec, an adaptive baseball league for children and adults with special needs. I also had the opportunity to be a “walking buddy” for children with special needs to be able to do equine therapy and work in support groups for parents and their children during my internship with P2PN (the Parent to Parent Network).

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy teaching moments that are also fun, so if we can read books or write stories or paint (arts and crafts are my favorite!!) then I’ll do my best to make it a great experience for everyone. Alternatively I consider myself a very active person, I enjoy playing sports, taking walks, exploring, playing in parks, etc. anything outside I can do and am all game for.

My experience with special needs children...

I worked as a caregiver for 3 children with Downs Syndrome while studying at ASU. During my shifts I was in charge of a range of things (especially depending on the child I was working with that day). I worked on homework, chores, small and large motor therapies, youth groups, music therapy, and swim lessons with the kids.

The most important part about being a nanny...

When I was working with my special needs kids (no they weren’t my kids but after a year I felt like they were family!) I worked with a lovely child named Abby who happened to be nonverbal. Towards the end of my employment and after the years of speech and music therapy she had, I heard her yell at one of her brothers! Being able to hear her speak made everything worth it and is something I will never forget.
