I’m currently a part time nanny for an 18 month old boy and I have plenty of babysitting experience! Besides this I used to volunteer at the Children’s Hospital and would help out by keeping the children company and keeping them up to date on schoolwork/tutoring for the long term patients. In addition, I’ve also helped with special needs children!

I love going to the park, long walks, and finding ways to stay engaged beyond the television or a tablet.
My experience with special needs children...
I’ve helped with non-verbal autistic children and high functioning autism. What this looked like for me, more than babysitting I was there to keep the child occupied and five the parents a break. As I am still far from a professional in these matters I do ask the parent to stay within a certain distance in case of emergencies in which I don’t feel equipped to handle. I have never had any such emergencies but it’s just an added precaution. Of course, the more comfortable I get with your child the more relaxed that rule becomes but every special needs child is different so better safe than sorry!
The most important part about being a nanny...
A little girl I used to babysit drew a picture of me in class with her whole family! I knew at that moment I was doing something right! I am still very much in her and her family’s life and still babysit her and her siblings sometimes but they’re all older and in school now!
