A little bit about me

Hi, I'm Lizzie! I'm a recent Physical Education grad from the University of Wyoming, originally from Buckley, WA. I will be going back to UW for my masters this Fall. In my free time, I enjoy walking, working out, and reading. During my undergraduate studies, I’ve gained 150+ hours of experience working with youth in physical education and physical activity settings, including 30 hours with a 12-year-old with a visual impairment at Camp Abilities Brockport. Most of my experience has been with kids in grades K-6. I’m CPR certified and passionate about empowering children to stay active, build confidence, and feel a sense of belonging. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Growing up, I would babysit for younger children (6 months to 12 years) for family and friends. I come from a large family (I have 20 cousins), so I am used to the high energy and quick pace that comes with being with little ones. The most children I have babysat at once is 4 of my little boy cousins.

In my major, I have taught PE to students in Laramie. To students in grades pre-k-2, I taught throwing & catching, locomotion & stillness, and spatial awareness. To 5th graders, I taught tchoukball, dance, pickleball, and gymnastics/parkour. This last fall I taught ultimate frisbee, badminton, and dance to 6th graders.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I like to be outside with kids as much as possible. Some of my favorites have been walks, sledding, and walking while I watch the kids ride their bikes. Activities that help them stay engaged and not just on a screen are ones I like. This could look like making a craft, going on the trampoline, or making a fort. I like to do things that will make them feel important and show I value their interests like dress-up, cars, dolls, animals, playing house.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I find it imperative to take time to get to know the child and their needs. Giving them the space to warm up to me so I don't overwhelm them. A physically safe environment is key as well. This looks like making sure I don't leave any cleaners or heavy glass jars out. In addition, I would make sure to always double-check any baby-proofed cabinets are locked after I use them. Lastly, I value respecting the home and the family I am serving. Taking time to understand their expectations and helping out where I can. Such as dishes and laundry.

My experience with special needs children...

This last summer I worked one-on-one with a 12-year-old who had a visual impairment at a camp in Brockport, NY. While coaching, I used strategies like verbal skill cues, tactile modeling, and physical guidance to coach her in swimming, tandem biking, blind tennis, and to paddle board independently.

The most important part about being a nanny...

A few of these little boys and I put on blankets as capes and acted as superheroes. I think we also were pretending to be ninjas. Then, I set up my phone and we did our fights and were all silly. I loved the giggles and just being able to be a kid with them.
