Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Helping with homework, reading stories, teaching them to cook (in small ways), outdoor activities, (ie- kickball, softball, etc.) watching tv. I am also very adept at teaching kids spelling and grammar, and the art of creative writing!

The most important part about being a nanny...

These are not your children, and you have been entrusted with them through the Lord. Get to know each one, and modify your behavior to that child personally.

My experience with special needs children...

I cared for two Autistic children over the years. With both children I was aware that a solid 'routine' in their day was soothing for them. If in dire straits, I have a Deep Breath game I play with them, making it fun, but soothing them. I also make sure they have a special area that is ALL THEIRS, so they feel their space is protected. I am HUGELY patient, and I feel that this is the key, along with a lot of peronsl reinforcement for them.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Going to a Special Needs girl I babysat in Miami for many years, when she was 22. I was honored to be sitting with the entire family, who still made me feel like I was a part of theirs!!!
