A little bit about me

Hello! I have been working with young children for about 7 years, originally starting at 16 in a traditional daycare setting and occasional babysitting.

For the past five years, I have been working at a Montessori childcare center, more recently as a lead teacher. I am certified in Infant and Toddler care through AMS.

In the Montessori world, we talk about each person's "cosmic task", and I wholeheartedly know that working with young children is mine. There is nothing quite like the sense of purpose that is felt from watching children develop their personality and sense of self. I take great pride in my role of assisting with children in their development and watching their curiosity bloom.

More About Me

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

With infants, I love creating materials that encourage fine motor development as well as spark their cognitive development. Singing songs and reading books is my favorite way to teach language. I am a big fan of supporting large motor development, especially for toddler aged children. Encouraging long walks, extended outdoor play, and large motor activities is very important to me!

Additionally, I love introducing practical life activities in the toddler age. Pouring activities, clean up, self help skills, etc.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Working closely with families to foster their children's development. Understanding the families' "cultural values" and finding ways to encapsulate that in my care for them.

My experience with special needs children...

I have a younger brother with non verbal autism who I have helped care for as well as spending a month in Tennessee helping care for a child with verbal/developmental delays as well as medical conditions.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I worked with a child from infancy to now being their date night baby sitter since she is school aged- her hair took a while to grow in and when it did she was OBSESSED with princesses, specifically Elsa. Mom was always stressed because she didn't know much about hair styles. One day I brought extra hair elastics and managed to get a braid in her hair and she was very excited, Mom was too! From then on she always would talk about 'Ms. Emilee' making her a princess. To this day when I come over she asks if I can do her hair and tells me how much she loves that I do it. It's small, but it shows the small thing's really make an impact on children and although not seeing her everyday anymore, she remembers it. She now asks if she can do my hair and talks about wanting to be a hair stylist ( or in her words 'a hair do-er' when she's older. Knowing I left an impact on a child, even a seemingly small one, makes me love what I do🧡
