Hi! I’m Emily, a pre-law student at the University of Colorado Boulder! I’ve always loved working with kids, having experience as a camp counselor where I taught lessons and made sure each child felt safe and engaged. I’m warm, patient, and great at creating a positive, comforting environment. I’m also organized, responsible, and focused on safety and communication. I danced for 13 years, which taught me dedication, creativity, and leadership with energy and patience, qualities I bring to childcare. I enjoy realistic drawing as a way to unwind and express myself but it's also always fun teaching it to kids! Since moving to Colorado, I’ve joined the hiking club and Tea club which it's basically just a Slovak club but it helps me stay connected to my roots. Whether it’s helping with homework, planning activities, or being a reliable presence, I truly enjoy building positive relationships with both kids and parents. This allowed me to help children grasp concepts in their native language, making learning more accessible and enjoyable. I also created a positive, nurturing environment, ensuring every child felt safe, engaged, and supported. Additionally, I volunteered with Ukraine supply drives, where I worked with both English- and Russian-speaking individuals, helping them navigate challenges and connect with the resources they needed. While the volunteering didn’t focus solely on childcare, it did involve assisting families and children, which reinforced my ability to communicate effectively and provide support. Both experiences deepened my skills in patience and empathy.

Activities I enjoy doing with kids include drawing especially realistic drawing because it’s something they can really get into for a long time, and it’s fun to see them get better and more confident as they go. I also like playing games with them, whether it’s something active like tag or hide and seek, or video games that they have fun playing. I’m always up for board games, reading stories, doing crafts, or helping with homework too. I try to keep things fun and low-stress, while also doing activities that parents appreciate like ones that help with learning, focus, or just winding down after a busy day.

The most important part about being a nanny is creating a safe, supportive, and fun environment where kids feel happy and excited to spend time with you. It’s such a good feeling when they hear the babysitter is coming and get genuinely excited. At the same time, it’s just as important to be reliable and responsible for the parents by making sure safety always comes first, keeping up with routines, and helping get things done, whether that’s chores, homework, or daily tasks. It’s about being someone both the kids and parents can count on.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment was during my time as a camp counselor at the bilingual camp. One day, we were leading a simple science experiment, and there was a girl who was really shy and didn’t feel confident speaking Russian. Throughout the day, I made an effort to include her, talk with her one-on-one in both languages so she didn't feel forced to speak just one, and it helped her feel more comfortable in both languages. During that activity, she finally opened up, got so excited about the experiment, and started chatting with the other kids in both languages with a huge smile on her face. It was such a great moment seeing her come out of her shell and feel like she belonged made everything worth it because I have been in her position before. Seeing her light up just melted my heart.
