I currently work as a Teaching Assistant for a Developmental Program at Wind & Tide. I have had this job for almost a year now and enjoy every minute of it.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Some activities I do with kids include playing with toys (figures, dolls, Lego, puzzles, etc), Baking, any kind of craft and if allowed I am open to playing any video games, but I do prefer to do more hands on activities. I do sometimes bring toys from my own home, my old Barbie’s or some toy cars. If you would like me to bring some, just let me know!!
My experience with special needs children...
During the summer, this year and last year, I worked at a summer camp for children with autism. I did both 1:1 and group activities, depending on where my help was needed. I am currently working at a Social Skills group for children with special needs, doing 1:1 work with a child each week.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It is impossible for me to just pick one moment that I loved, because every moment with these kids are amazing moments. But if I had to choose one it would be a time when a little girl I was babysitting asked me to do her nails for her. We sat at the kitchen counter painting her nails and she let me add a gem on!! It’s one of my favourite moments because when I am with kids, I don’t see them as just a job. I make genuine connections and consider quite a few like a little sibling.
