More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
In my first position, I cared for two children, ages 2 and 5. My responsibilities included afterschool pickup, planning engaging activities until dinnertime, and helping to prepare meals while organizing play areas to ensure a fun and safe environment.
During the summer of 2022, I took a position with a second family, where I assisted with getting a child ready for camp and dropping him off. I returned in the afternoons for playtime, dinner prep, and bedtime routines, as well as running errands for the mom when needed.
In my third position, I dropped off three children at school or camp and picked them up later in the day. I spent more time with the 4-year-old and 7-year-old, taking them on outings to museums and parks. I also helped with their evening showers and baths and supported the family by cleaning up and prepping dinner until the parents arrived.
Acted as a 1:1 behavioral aide and nanny for a 4 year old boy recently before beginning SBCC's program.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Santa Barbara, California, offers many engaging activities for children. One of my favorites is spending a day at the beach, where we build sandcastles, play beach volleyball, and enjoy picnics. The ocean provides opportunities for swimming and boogie boarding, making it a fun way to stay active.
I also love visiting the Santa Barbara Zoo for educational talks and interactive exhibits that teach kids about animals. Exploring MOXI, The Wolf Museum of Exploration + Innovation, sparks creativity with hands-on science exhibits.
At Kid’s World, a fantastic play structure at a local park, children can climb, slide, and engage in imaginative play, which helps develop their physical and social skills. I also enjoy arts and crafts sessions in local parks, allowing kids to express their creativity while enjoying the outdoors. Lastly, visiting the Santa Barbara Farmers' Market is a great way for kids to learn about healthy eating.

The most important part about being a nanny...
As a nanny, my priority is ensuring that children feel safe, loved, protected, and validated. Since the part of their brain responsible for logic and emotional reasoning is still developing, it’s essential for them to know their feelings are valid.
Emotional validation allows children to express themselves freely, helping them understand their emotions better and develop healthy regulation skills.
However, holding boundaries is equally important. I ensure they know certain behaviors are unacceptable, teaching them responsibility and the consequences of their actions. Balancing emotional support with structure fosters growth and resilience, making it rewarding to witness their development in such a nurturing environment.

My experience with special needs children...
Working with special needs children has been a rewarding experience that deepened my understanding of their unique behavioral needs and the importance of providing emotional support. I have learned that consistency in routines creates a sense of security, which helps them thrive.
Building strong connections was crucial. I prioritized active listening, encouraging them to express their feelings through words, art, or play. I also integrated mindfulness and meditation techniques, such as simple breathing exercises and guided imagery. These practices helped manage anxiety and promote emotional regulation, fostering a sense of focus and calm.
Celebrating small achievements boosted their self-esteem and reinforced positive behavior. This experience taught me valuable lessons in empathy and the impact of unconditional support, strengthening my commitment to fostering inclusion and understanding in all interactions with special needs children.

The most important part about being a nanny...
My all-time favorite nanny moment occurred during a summer when I worked with one of my kiddos using the Headspace app's kids’ section. We dedicated a portion of our time each day to practicing, which really resonated with him.
Over the weeks, I noticed a remarkable change in his behavior; he began to embrace these techniques whenever he faced frustrating moments.
The highlight of the summer came when, instead of reacting with upset or anger during a challenging situation, he paused, took a giant deep breath, and collected himself. With a huge smile on his face, he ran straight to his mom and exclaimed, “Look, I’m breathing!”
This moment was not only heartwarming but also a testament to the progress we had made together. It showed how mindfulness and emotional regulation can transform reactions and create a more positive outlook. Witnessing this shift was incredibly rewarding and reinforced my commitment to incorporating mindfulness practices into my time with children.
