More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have nannied the past four summers. Three of the summers I cared for a family with five children, ages ranged from a few days old, to 13. A different family for two summers, they had four kids, ages from six to 13. I also nannied just one baby for 6 months!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to take kids out and experience different things. Some of my favorite things I have done with previous families were taking the kids to the lake, getting ice cream, having pool days, taking them out on different hikes around the Black hills! I am down to do anything that gets the kids outside the house and gives them new experiences.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important part is just being there for the children. You are the “parent” when their parents aren’t there. I think it is important to have rules and boundaries for children. Knowing the line between discipline as a parent and discipline as a nanny are different and is important to be aware of. I want to be able to be another person for the kids to know they are loved by. I think having a relationship with each individual kid is important and learning the little things about each one can really help. Setting boundaries and sticking to them but also being able to have a good relationship with each individual child is important to me!
My experience with special needs children...
One of the families I nannied for had an autistic son. He taught me a lot about patience and the ability to find different strategies that worked better for him. I learned how to deal with his frustrations as well as help him learn different ways to regulate his emotions when he didn’t know how.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I always loved taking them out to the lake or to the park and just seeing them have such a good time. Being able to give them exposure to their beautiful backyard, the Black hills was always so rewarding. I also love to bring little things to surprise the kids. One summer I brought over my snow cone machine and we went to the pool and came back and made snow-cones. They loved being able to customize their own!
