For me, the most important part is the child's safety and emotional well-being. I focus on being present, being consistent, and building trust with the kids and their parents. I stick to their routines. I try and keep things steady. And I try and help kids feel secure and cared for.
My experience with special needs children...
I've supported students in both general and special education settings, providing one-to-one and small group support. And in that role, I focused on consistency, patience, positive reinforcement, and following each child's individual plan.I worked closely with classroom teachers and families to make sure that the strategies that we were using were consistent and we were meeting the child's needs. And through it all, I learned how to stay calm, flexible, and child-centered in my approach.
