More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Since 2015, i have worked for the City of Anaheim in Youth Programs & have been promoted over the years to Sr. Program Specialist. I help plan/implement activities & crafts to the daily programming at 7 after school program sites & 2 seasonal camp sites. For approximately 5 years, I was the lead at one of the after school sites & helped the participants with homework such as reading, math, & writing etc. I also prepared & helped them do their arts & crafts. I have experience supervising anywhere from 5-20 kids at a time. At our camp sites, we do have a maximum of 60 participants we are in charge of supervising. I also babysat for my family member/friends before I started working or even occasionally now for date nights. I have a 7 month old nephew, 3 nieces (14 month old, 3 year old, & 4 year old). I have helped care for them all as newborns/infants.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Building a bond with the child(ren) & creating a safe environment for them to be comfortable & safe while still having enjoying being a child.

My experience with special needs children...

As a camp counselor/director, I usually take on dealing with any children with special needs that may need extra care/attention at times. The last 2 years I have experienced the opportunity to work with special needs children, I have learned they really like to be heard & sometimes they just need redirection to help them feel okay. I have dealt with a special needs child being upset because he lost a drawing & running to put his hands on the other participant, throw the belongings of the library staff, & spit on me. Both children were clearly upset along with others in the room so I took it upon myself to deescalate the situation by asking for help & separating the children. By using one of the calming method I had found to work with the special needs participants I was able to quickly & effectively deescalate the situation. The participants enjoyed when I would walk around the park & we would talk about all the things that interested him.
