More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was a nanny for a family right out of highschool for about 6 months. The family had one year old twins, one of which was nonverbal autistic. I gained a lot of experience working with special needs children through that experience. I was also an aupair in Australia for a family with 3 children under two for about 3 months in 2019. I've been an on call nanny for a child in Iowa City for a year now, and have helped to nanny for the family as they brought home their second child as well. Finally, I worked in the local children's hospital for a year as a CNA.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to play outside, do arts and crafts, and cook with the children. I previously worked in a bakery so I really enjoy baking with kids as well. During the warm months, I enjoy swimming, going to parks, and playing games with the children. I was previously a lifeguard, so I am good at teaching children how to be more comfortable around the water.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think the most important thing about being a nanny is finding a way to build a relationship with the child. Children require trust in their caregivers and autonomy simultaneously, which is a delicate balance. I think that when a child really trusts you they're more likely to communicate their needs and a relationship is easier to maintain.

My experience with special needs children...

I was a live in nanny for a child with autism who was nonverbal for about 6 months. However, my greatest experience with special needs children was definitely through my work in the children's hospital, where I was able to see many different types of medical necessities and learn about their individual cares.

The most important part about being a nanny...

When I went to Australia to be a nanny, I brought Hawkeye T-shirts for all of my kids as a present. I loved watching how excited they would get to match with me and represent a team on the other side of the world.
