A little bit about me

Hello! I have been working with children and teens of all ages for the last 20 years as a nanny, preschool teacher, tutor, au pair, and youth movement camp counselor and director. I’m enthusiastic and friendly, and believe in following each unique family’s lead. I believe that children learn best through play, exploration, and following their interests. I honor feelings as they arise, supporting each child in their process of discovery.
I am also very interested in supporting families during the postpartum experience and hope to train as a postpartum doula.
I have a five year old daughter entering kindergarten so am available after drop off (after 8:45) and until 2-2:15 when I leave to pick her up at 2:30 (except Mondays early pick up at 1pm). Currently available Mondays, and Wed-Fridays. Please reach out if you need any day time support and care.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been working with kids for 20 years in classrooms, educational camps, and as an au-pair and nanny. I have been a teacher and assistant in a Waldorf inspired pre-school, HeadStart, and Special Beginnings, (a specialized preschool program preparing 3-5 year olds on the Autism spectrum for the classroom setting).
I believe in play-based learning and following the interests of children while setting developmentally appropriate boundaries. I value connecting with parents/families so that I can support your family and values best.
I love working with kiddos and their families, and have excellent references which I am happy to share. I would be happy to talk with you about how I can support your family.
I also dog walk and pet sit so I am comfortable and happy with animals.
I moved back to Ojai last year with my husband and our 2 year old (mid March). I am currently looking for part time childcare/nannying to do with our kiddo so that both can benefit from friendship and play.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience working with children with special needs from my time teaching in HeadStart and Special Beginnings. Most of my experience is with kids on the autism spectrum.

The most important part about being a nanny...

There are so many!! One moment that comes to mind is doing a cooking project with the younger of two brothers which evolved into making something special for his older brother. The older joined us because of the yummy smells and when he learned that the snack was being made for him he asked to help so we could all make it for each other and share it. It was just so sweet!
