I've volunteered as a teacher's assistant when I was a senior in high school. I shared two hours of my time between two 1st grade classrooms and one 2nd grade classroom.

I enjoy taking children to the park to play and run around, playing board games or reading indoors, putting together puzzles, learning about the things they enjoy doing and participating in the activities they find joy in, coloring, painting, playing with playdough, etc.
My experience with special needs children...
I don't have much one-on-one experience with special needs children, but I've worked with people with autism at a previous job at a thrift store. One person in particular became a close friend of mine. We would laugh together, and we quickly learned to understand each other's differences and how to accommodate one another when needed. I feel that I learned a lot about special needs during this friendship.
