Deborah, a Nanny for Hire in Cortland, NY 13045
I have been a nanny for over 3 years for the same family, and just found out that they will be relocating soon (by end of 2010); although I hate to leave them, I must be on the lookout for a new position. I am willing to start anytime after Labor Day (9/6).
I have watched children since I was young, starting with my siblings and cousins. When I was in high school I baby-sat for parent meetings (my step-mother worked for them), and as a senior I took an early childhood half-day program, which had instruction as well as in-class preschool experience. Following high school I took a few courses toward elementary education before deciding to work with younger children. I have worked in day care settings, in a drop-in center, in church settings (nursery-youth group), and as a nanny.
As for the family I currently work for (09/06-present), the mom works from home, and they have a 3 1/2-year-old boy and a 1 1/2-year-old girl. The son started preschool this year, 3 half days per week. I am responsible for the daughter while he is in school; we spend our mornings at play groups/drop-in centers, then pick up big brother, go home for lunch and naps, and then play during the afternoon. I try to keep the kids busy with activities: play dough, coloring, working on letters, projects, games, puzzles. We also do outings to the Sciencenter, parks, and such weather permitting. We keep it very flexible though, basically whatever the kids are up for that day, and whatever works for mom. We spend our summers/nice days outside at local parks, or just in the back yard. We're on the go a lot! Busy, but fun!
I don't mind helping with household chores as long as it doesn't interfere w/caring for the children: laundry, cleaning up, meals, and grocery shopping.
I have been Infant/child CPR certified in the past, but not since 2008 (I'm willing to do it again). I have several references. I love working with children of all ages and am comfortable with any size group.
