The most important part about caring for children at all is safety of the child. But, I also believe what is important about being a nanny is building a relationship of trust. Once you have the trust, then you can start to guild the child, but it takes the foundation first.
My experience with special needs children...
I have been a registered behavior technician for over two years. As an RBT I provided ABA therapy for children who are diagnosed with autism. The children that I worked with ranged from 2-8 years old. I am more than comfortable caring for a child with special needs!
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite moments will always be when you observe a child independently doing a task that they have struggled with in the past. Most recently was putting on shoes. When you see the child that has struggled all year with that just slip their foot in with no help, it makes me so proud.
