I have done volunteer work with children for many years, mostly relating to the arts. I also have a trans son whom we got custody of as a teenager. He required special care for a number of unrelated things and it was challenging but getting him through was worth it.

Arts and crafts are a big one! Science projects, reading time, teaching ASL and Spanish words. I’m very excited to have moved to the PNW and want to take every chance I can get to be outdoors. Parks, walks and adventures are a must.

Most of the children I have cared for came from challenging backgrounds. I am very familiar with handling kids with ADHD, on the autism spectrum and have a trans son. He’s an adult now and a good human being.

The child I cared for from 4 months to four years old, my longest term family, was still learning to speak. He walked in the door, smiled, and said “Today I think happy.” Some of the best wisdom I’ve ever been given. I think about this a lot.
