A little bit about me

Hello - I'm wondering if there's a little one (infant to pre-school age) near my house in Battle Ground, who needs some TLC a few to several hours a week in my home. I have worked with children and families in a variety of roles for around 20 years, babysitting/nannying, violin teaching, preschool caregiving (home-based and formal day care center), and I was a social worker with at-risk families.

My husband is also great with children, helping with supervision, education, protection, nurturing, and age-appropriate activities. We both have a quiet, calming nature that is comforting to little ones. My husband works from home, so while he would be generally focused on our small business, he would be at least somewhat involved.

Our home dynamic is calm, quiet, clean, and orderly. We do not have pets but enjoy feeding hummingbirds & chickadees from our porch and deck.

We're interested to have a special little one in our lives, like we have enjoyed in prior years.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was interested in caring for little ones when I was still a child myself, including involvement in taking care of my baby brother, and I started babysitting for others before my pre-teen years. I then started teaching violin to young children when I was in high school. As an adult, I continued teaching violin lessons to children part-time, while my full-time job was as a social worker with at-risk families. Meanwhile, I got to know my neighbors' and co-workers' children and became like an aunt to some of them, spending time with them because I enjoyed them and wanted to help their parents. After I got married in my early 30's and had discontinued my formal, full-time employment, I provided some part-time childcare at a daycare center and a home-based preschool, as well as nannied for a little girl, who became sweetly bonded to both me and my husband, as he is also great with kids (i.e. supervision, education, and his quiet, calming nature).

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

- Nature walks
- Reading stories
- General nurturing
- Teaching them & watching them learn

On another note (as there is still space available to write in this block, unlike the others), I want to be upfront about not having current childcare references because for the last 5 years, I regularly traveled with my husband for his work contracts before we moved across country to Battle Ground. Since being here for nearly 2 years now, we have been very focused on growing our small business, during which time I have not had involvement with kids. However, my dad is a pediatrician, and he could confirm my history with children. Also, not only is he a good resource, families in the past have seemed to like knowing that their babysitter/nanny had easy access to a pediatrician.

The most important part about being a nanny...

For the child and family, I think some of the most foundational parts of childcare include a good connection in a safe environment with quality care, support, education, and communication with the parents. In my past nannying, I kept a log of the child's day for the parents to review and occasionally sent pictures for them to have an additional glimpse into their child's day. I value supporting parents who are attentive to their child(ren)'s wellbeing.

As one who is no longer planning to have children of my own, I enjoy the extra special connections with little ones, providing TLC, and watching them learn.

I understand that not everyone is a fit with just anyone, so it would be important to me to meet in person first and see if the fit seems to be mutually beneficial for your family and ours.

My experience with special needs children...

My involvement with special needs children was more through my social work employment, not so much through childcare.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I nannied for a little girl (from the time she was around 10 months old) for over a year. I loved seeing how she bonded with my husband. She had a solid attachment with me too, but his name was one of her first words. Her face would light up when he joined us, and she would cry when he left, including when it was time for us to leave her 2nd birthday party, where her family and other friends were still at her house with her. I loved seeing how my husband cared for her. He was really good about helping with supervision and protection. He would read stories to her and accompany us on outings to the park, library, and such - special times.

I absolutely love children, the elderly and animals. I am a South African citizen married to an American and I have a green card. I speak English, German and Afrikaans fluently. I worked at the College for Educational Technology in South Africa where I trained trainers. After that I worked at several Kindergartens with the 1 to 3 year, 3 to 4 ,4 to 5 year and 5 to 6 year age groups. I also had my own after care center for 10 years where I had children between the ages of 6 and 11 on a daily basis. I Assisted them with their homework, taught them effective study methods, taught different life skills, like basic first aid skills, public speaking and leadership skills. I also taught them various arts and crafts, transported them to extramural activities, and provided nutritional meals and snacks. In my spare time I volunteered at various old age homes. I have also been a Sunday school teacher. Your child deserves someone like me to lovingly take care of him/ her like a grandmother.
Clara E. - Seeking Work in Battle Ground

Live-In Full-Time Nanny Available in Battle Ground, WA: Clara E.

18 years old, growing up as the middle child of 9 kids, I am Clara Ek, everything you are looking for in a nanny. The kids will have fun and they will be in good hands. As the older siblings got the jobs around the house i had to go search elsewhere for sitting jobs early on, babysitting for various family’s of friends and neighbors up until i was old enough for a “real” job.
I took cpr training but didn’t go for the certification. I’ve been in the construction field for a while now, but looking to make a little cash while healing up completely from knee surgery. Don’t worry i’m not as crippled as it sounds and will still be able to play with the kids. I have a lot of energy, my knee just needs a little break from framing(climbing scaffolding&ladders and such)
