A little bit about me

I am a nanny who has worked as a preschool teacher, tutor and babysitter. I have over 15 years experience with children of all ages, from newborns to elementary school aged. I also have worked with children with disabilities.
I am flexible and looking for a full time position. I do light housework, organize play dates, create developmentally appropriate learning environments for each child's unique needs, and I also cook homemade baby food. I'm open to extra chores such as laundry or dishes. I have experience with newborns, twins and multiple children. I have my own transportation, and am willing to run errands or take children to activities, the library, nature centers or even swimming. I am first aide/CPR/SIDS certified, and have early childhood certifications. In my spare time I love to read and travel, which I try to incorporate into caring for children. If you're looking for a creative, dependable and experienced nanny for your family, I hope to hear from you.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I am a nanny who has worked as a preschool teacher, tutor and babysitter. I have over 15 years experience with children of all ages, from newborns to elementary school aged. My experience as a preschool teacher started out in a christian school in the infant/toddler with ten to twelve children. I also worked as an assistant teacher in a Montessori school, and lastly as a 3/4 year old teacher in a daycare following the Creative curriculum. As a tutor, I have worked with pre-K and elementary aged children in reading, math and study skills. As a nanny, I have worked with three different families with wide ranging styles of parenting. One family helped how to incorporate Montessori principles in a home setting. In each family, I created lessons in music, literacy, counting, crafts and even dramatic play. I also planned field trips, and taught children to swim. I also helped small children learn independent skills in sleep routines, potty training and self feeding.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to read, travel and explore the outdoors. So, i try to pass this along to the children I care for with field trips to libraries, nature centers and zoos/ aquariums. I try to choose books I think will interest each individual child, and also plan trips that coincide with their interests such as taking a child that loves construction to the building museum. I try to encourage a love of the outdoors through hikes in the woods and simple activities such as gathering leaves to trace. I also love to song and dance with children, even bringing my guitar out sometimes. My main goal is to expose children to new experiences from a simple trip around the house for a newborn feeling different textures, to tugging on boots to creek walk in the local woods for children that love water.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny is really getting to know the unique personalities and interests of the children under your care. This helps a nanny to be patient, creative, and most of all caring in dealing with children. In terms of parents, the most important part of being a nanny is communication and openers, which allows a caregiver and family to work together in figuring out how to take care of the family's children.

My experience with special needs children...

I have tutored children over the years on the Autism spectrum, with ADHD and Dyslexia, and helped take care of children with motor or neurological differences. I have experience in helping parents with preemie babies in keeping the house as free of germs as possible, and making sure the preemie babies were on a nutritious diet, and helped them with physical therapy through baby massage and gentle physical therapy. I learned how to take detailed notes on children's progress, medication and needs to communicate with parents.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite moment from all my years of nannying was a really simple one. A two year old I looked after was obsessed with trucks and construction, but also only spoke French and a little English, which is a language I was only just picking up on. We just went to the library, and had books on construction equipment. I saw a construction site and pulled over do we could watch the bulldozer. All of a sudden, the child grabbed one of the books and started pointing out the different parts on the machine in French and English. He even sounded out some of the words like "tire". I was so thrilled, at this random hands_on learning moment, and how excited both I and the two year old were as we babbled to each other in French and English, and as he showed me he had absorbed all those weeks of me introducing him to reading.
