Beyond the basic foundation of care and safety, to me, the most important part of being a nanny is maintaining a positive and consistent line of communication with the parents, sharing everything from daily housekeeping items to any concerns or observations about the physical, social, and emotional needs of the children.
My experience with special needs children...
As a teacher, several of my students over the years had special needs physically, academically, behaviorally, emotionally, or in combination. Sometimes these needs accompanied a diagnosis, and sometimes a diagnosis was forthcoming. In every case, I worked closely with their parents to determine how I could adapt the classroom environment, my teaching methods, the lessons provided, etc., to ensure their experience in my classroom was as beneficial and rewarding as it could be.
