The most important part of being a nanny is helping children feel safe, understood, and confident enough to explore the world around them. I try to ask myself, “Is this actually dangerous, or is it just inconvenient?” If it’s safe, I want kids to have the freedom to try things, make a mess, meet new people, experience new environments, and learn through doing.
Of course, that freedom comes with thoughtful boundaries and close supervision. I also believe in following the parents’ lead and creating consistency. My goal is for children to know that I’m a safe, supportive person they can trust while they become more independent and confident.

The most important part about being a nanny...
The 8-month-old I currently care for recently fell asleep in my arms, a rare and unexpected moment that brought me to tears because it made me realize how much he must trust and feel safe with me. The 2-year-old I nanny often surprises me with his sweetness, like when he says, 'I'm proud of you, Hope,' after I do something kind for him, like sharing my food or tying his shoes. It’s these small moments that make nannying such a meaningful job.
