I enjoy taking kids on nature walks, creating science experiments, playing games, doing crafts and puzzles, and finding entertaining ways to keep the kiddos off of technology.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny is building a trustful relationships with the kids. The kids that I consistently nannied for a few years ago still text and call me almost daily to talk to me about any issues they're having, or exciting things going on in their lives. It makes me the happiest person in the world knowing that these kids want to share these things with me, and it shows me how much they valued our time together.
My experience with special needs children...
While I was a tutor and a camp counselor, I worked with kids with ADD/ADHD, Autism, OCD and high-anxiety issues. My first and foremost goal is always to find a way to make kids feel safe, respected and heard. I understand how important it is to them to have a trusted and reliable adult that they feel comfortable to go to when they need help or are having an issue.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was when one of the young girls I had been watching almost daily wrote me a personal letter on my birthday, and told me that she considered me as a sister. She had been struggling with some personal issues at the time and was growing very distant, but showing her consistent love and care helped her come out of her shell and become an extremely outgoing kiddo. It warmed my heart so much knowing that this child viewed me as part of her family after everything she had been going through and the struggles she had been facing.
