Hi!
I'm Imani, I’m 23 years old and have recently graduated from Chico State with a Bachelor’s in Communications and Public Affairs.

I am seeking a position for any part-time babysitting or "date night" jobs as I work at an elementary school during the weekdays.

I am currently a student at San Jose State University completing my master's in education and yearn to work in childcare and education. I currently am an Instructional Assistant at an elementary school and have worked as a student substitute at elementary schools as well as daycares and after school programs. I really enjoy getting to know children’s big personalities and engaging with them, not just to keep them busy but to make sure they are heard and know that their feelings are valid. Taking care of children is more than fulfilling to me but rather rewarding and gratifying knowing that I am a part of their memories and lives.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Throughout my life, I have always been the big sister and the big cousin. From a young age, I loved having the ability to be the big sister and looking after my younger brother and cousins. Throughout high school, I worked at my church's Sunday school and daycare care and loved every minute of it which taught me taught me to be more patient and compassionate. With more present-day experiences I have worked at a daycare working with aged 1-6 years old. Including more experience, I currently work as an Instructional Assistant as well as a summer childcare leader every summer. This experience was very impactful as I cared for a special needs child as well as a range of ages that taught me how to properly communicate with different ages of children in different circumstances. This experience taught me extreme patience, tantrum control, strong empathy, and how to help a child to understand their feelings rather than shutting them down.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

While being inside depending on the age I love to do arts and crafts, play board games, have a dance party. Being outdoors is my favorite especially when it's a sunny day. While being outside I enjoy having picnics, playing i-Spy, or hide n seek.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny or someone who cares for children is being nurturing and communicative. Being able to connect to a child while building a safe and nurturing relationship that offers a stable environment that allows for a child to be able to feel comfortable in trying to communicate their feelings is so important in caring for children.

My experience with special needs children...

At the past daycare, I worked at I worked with 2 children who were delayed with speech and walking. One of the children was awaiting a diagnosis of Autism. This experience taught me that patience and calmness are extremely helpful in not only situations with special needs children but also no matter the situation.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I used to babysit my 2 little cousins who loved the movie Moana. We had watched the movie together so many times and I thought that screen time is fun to an extent but what if we did something else that was just as fun as well as something they love. I put on the soundtrack to the movie and I put down my hair and started singing the soundtrack with them. We all danced around the living room while singing and acting as if we were at a concert. I'll never forget this experience with them because I saw the joy on their faces just having fun dancing and singing.
