More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I grew up nannying, begining to work regularly for local families and friends starting in 8th grade through high school. I did work occasionally before 8th grade and after high school as well but not regularly.
I also have three years of teaching experience in my capacity as a Teaching Assistant at CU Boulder, as well as experience supervising undergraduates who are assisting me in my research.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Firstly, I always make the effort to learn the childs (and parents) interests and needs. I personally enjoy intellectually stimulating and creative activities (both indoors and outdoors) that foster curiosity in children because they are enriching for both the child and myself. It's also ideal when these activities can simultaneously teach important skills such as fine motor skills, language, the basics of cooking, colors, art, science, math concepts, etc. Of course, making sure activities are age appropriate. Here are some examples:
Coloring, visiting a playground, building forts, attending children's museums, playing music, reading and visiting the library, bike rides, fun yet totally safe science "experiments" (such as oobleck), making jewelry, doing legos, or even braiding hair!

The most important part about being a nanny...
Being able to connect with children at such a formative time is a serious responsibility but one that is deeply rewarding! I think the most important part about this role is cultivating a sense of curiosity through genuine encouragement. Staying curious about the world and yourself can sometimes get lost as we grow into adulthood, but I think maintaining an active and curious mind is one of the best things you can do to create a healthy, fulfilling life.
My experience with special needs children...
All four years of high school I was in robotics and our team developed assistive devices to improve the comfort for children in our community who relied on mobility scooters. This involved consultation where we worked closely with the children. Through babysitting for friends and family, I also have experienced caring for children with a variety of special needs including developmental disorders, learning disabilities, epilepsy, behavioral/mood disorders, and physical impairments like partial-deafness.
