A little bit about me

I am a sixty year old grandmother, retired minister and have been a nanny many times throughout the years starting at age 15. I am currently caregiver to a 90 year old and a 18month old. I need more hours. I started teaching children during Covid so currently I have about ten that I watch off and on but I desire to have a regular week with regular hours. Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Working as a Banny in early twenties and I worked with a four year old non verbal autistic male and after a year he had about a thirty word verbal vocabulary. I have cared for children of all ages.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

We do all kinds of field trip and I search the paper each week to see what kind of low cost or free things we can get involved in. In the summer we always find fun things to do. As an answer under other questions I enjoy taking kids to community activities, Creating stories and songs, I enjoy teaching different art techniques, gardening and good manner.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Sharing my love for life and seeing a child bloom into a beautiful young lady or man. I am a teacher by call and I almost finished my elementary education degree but because of my own learning disabilities I had a really hard time with the harder maths. I find it a joy when I am able to work with a child and find ways to teach the things they are struggling with. I have so many success stories with children who were struggling in one way or another and finding ways for them to not only comprehend but to do so with excellence..

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with several autistic non-verbal children, special learning disabilities and some behaviour issues such as ADHD. I work with picture cards, and make up songs and rhythms to aid with the learning experience. My favourite thing is teaching children to use the imaginations to build stories and reinforce a live for reading. I can share with you different songs that I have made up during Covid to teach math skills that children were struggling with. I like to find ways to encourage stewardship, community involvement, such as taking children to visit the older people, disabled teaching the importance of reaching beyond boundaries so that children learn to care for others. I have talking old children to volunteer at food banks, and other opportunities to teach the importance of helping others. I have found that no matter what the child’s special needs are they benefit and grow when they reach beyond their selves and help others. Through and songs, stories etc… we grow together.
