More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been doing volunteer work with children for several months now. I teach children of varying ages, including those with special needs to ride on horse-back. The volunteer work has allowed me to better understand how to approach teaching in a meaningful and fun way.

Additionally, I have been babysitting for neighbors on and off for roughly 5 years. In that time I have learned a great deal about how to be compassionate, understanding, and patient with children.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

*All of the following are supervised*--

Going to the park and participating in play.

Doing small-scale, child friendly scientific experiments which encourage curiosity.

Doing both indoor and outdoor painting.

Teaching some light cooking.

Reading books/poems both indoors and outdoors.

Teaching new vocabulary words in creative ways.

Creating scavenger hunts.

Using chalk outside.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is communication and being able to treat children like the human beings they are. Oftentimes we have a tendency to forget that children are just like us. Children have needs beyond: food, water, shelter, and clothing. There is no such thing as 'needy children,' but there are children who struggle to communicate that they are lacking something of importance. Some children take more work than others, but that is just part of the job.

My experience with special needs children...

When it comes to special needs work I only have experience with mildly Autistic children and kids with ADHD. This work was done during my 'therapeutic horseback riding' volunteer work. I have assisted these children in calming down from mild to intense meltdowns. I have also been able to incorporate 'special interests' into my work with a few of the Autistic children I have worked with.

The most important part about being a nanny...

A few months ago I nannying for a sweet, 10 year old boy named Jacob. We were both sitting down and drawing with crayons. I told him that we would take five minutes to draw our favorite thing and once done we would share the drawings with each other. When the timer ran out Jacob showed me a portrait of myself and I then showed Jacob a crayon portrait of him! We laughed ourselves silly and I gave him a big hug.

Arryn R. - Seeking Work in Columbia

Live-In Part-Time Child Care Provider Available in Columbia, MD: Arryn R.

Hi! I am a very positive, fun, loving, and reliable person. I first realized that I have a knack for children 4 years ago when my nephew was born, he brought so much positivity to the world even on rainy days. Being a homeschooled high school student allows me to be where I am needed when I am needed. Having the ability to watch children do their things and learn from the people surrounding them makes me want to be the best influence I can be. When my nephew was about 2 years old, his parents started to see my capabilities when it comes to caring for their child; helping with learning new things, and just being there when I am needed, that is where my babysitting adventure began. All I thought about was how much positivity he brings into my life and how he makes me smile daily, it makes me want to see more of that kind of happiness because seeing others happy makes me extremely happy. I love children dearly and I will do everything I can to be a good influence and provide great care.
