A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Jenica I am a 24 year old on a hiatus from college but do have aspirations to continue towards my bachelors in psychology/ child education . I have always loved kids for as long as I remember and working with kids as a profession is my favorite thing to do. I started babysitting toddlers and other young children at age 14. I have plenty of experience working with kids ages 1 year- 14 as well as experience working with children with disabilities. I worked as a nanny for an 18 month old boy for a year in 2022. I have been working as a behavioral technician with autistic/disabled kids for the past 3 years. I love interacting with children and joining in with their pretend play. Everyone that knows me says I have incredible patience. I have a CPR certification and have taken car seat installation training through my behavior technician job.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Took a early childhood playgroup class freshman year of high school. Was responsible for observing the children’s development over the course of the year. Also creating activities to help aid in the development of the children. Sophomore and junior year Of high school I participated in reading buddies, in which I aided grade school children with their reading/ writing skills. Junior year of high school I was in a mentoring program and mentored an 8 year old girl during after school program. This included helping her with her homework. I did tutor in high school as well with middle school student that struggled with behaviors. I have work in ABA field as a behavior technician following behavior plans and intervention plans for the past 3 years

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading, drawing, pretend play, hide and seek, baking/cooking, arts and crafts, outside play (parks, hikes, swimming)

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important is allowing time for free play/ independent play while also engaging in pretend play with the child. It’s important to engage the child in sensory experiences as well. I enjoy doing water play, baking and cooking to imbedding sensory play/ living skills into their day. I strive to always take the child’s led on what they are interested with and always ensure they are getting enough gross motor/ fine motor play into there daily activities in a fun creative way.

My experience with special needs children...

I volunteered at a preschool for autistic children. Also babysat a 9 year old with autism from [phone number hidden]. Also was involved in inclusive classes and clubs working along side peers with disabilities. Worked very closed with a nonverbal peer in a wheelchair senior year of high school. I started an ABA job in Ct and worked there for a year with autistic kids ages 2-15. I currently work as a behavioral technician for Autistic preschoolers ages 1- 6 years and have been there for nearly a year and a half.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I loved bringing him out on outings and watching his confidence grow in exploring the play-sets. He went from relying on the swing mostly to climbing all the structures and going down the big slides. I loved giving him the space to explore different learning modalities in his own way and he eventually learn to complete the activity in the manners I modeled for him. I loved helping him build his language starting out with early ASL and a year later he was able to say complex sentence (ex. “ it’s a big volcano”).
