A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Jenna Hughes, and I am currently working on my degree to be an elementary school teacher. Ideally I will work somewhere between first and third grade just because I think that is such a fun and educationally rich age group. I have been a nanny on and off for almost five years and worked as a lead in a daycare for a year with toddlers. In that position I created curriculum and potty trained over one hundred children. I also worked in more areas than toddlers, but that ended up being the rooms I loved being in the most. If you are to hire me I do light housework and ensure that any messes made while I am present are clean before I leave. I also do meal prep and any tasks needed like grocery shopping/ picking things up/ etc. I love kids of all ages and I am excited to meet you.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked as the lead toddler teacher at a daycare for about a year. In this position I was responsible for maintaining state standards for cleanliness, and curriculum for three classrooms. These classes ranged between 18 months and three years old.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of being a nanny for me is that you get to make a small impact in the lives of others. Most of the families I have worked with have been through some real hardships and getting to come in to brighten that kids day is so nice. During one job the mom would come in at six in the morning after working all night as a hospice nurse, and just be dog tired. The grandma was sick, the mom was a hospice nurse at night and a single parent, so you could see the relief on her face when I was there. I got up every morning and made her breakfast before she got back and then she would go get some rest, while I took her daughter out to go somewhere for the morning. She got to be a happy, involved parent in the afternoons because she got that restful morning. You just end up really making a difference for some people.

My experience with special needs children...

I have not had a lot of experience in this area, but I would like to learn more and invest time in getting a better understanding for special needs children.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I took the eight year old girl I previously nannied to kemah boardwalk during the summer and she told me it was the most fun she had all summer long. I had just started keeping her again and her mom was a night nurse so they stayed home a lot. I told her mom and we were both so happy she had fun that day. Her mom kept me the rest of the summer and I spent almost everyday planning activities and going places with her.
