A little bit about me

My name is Jen, I've worked with kid's since I was old enough to babysit, which was 11yrs old. I've worked for families spanning of 2 to 4 year's. I've had the pleasure of watching these kid's grow from babies, to school age, watching them getting their license to graduate. I still keep in contact with a few of them. I've raised 2 kid's of my own, but never fully stopping to care for other's children. As a parent I know how difficult and yes demanding life can get. Both of my boy's are on the spectrum and have ADHD, along with depression and anxiety. Along the way I've learned tools that worked and some that didn't. I've also taken classes to help me learn and how to teach. I wanted to better understand their way of learning without hindering them from learning. I also cook and I don't mind cleaning.

"Have known her for over 30 years. Always punctual, usually early. Cooks everything from basically scratch. Cleans with vinegar and prefers not to use chemicals. Is a protective mama bear with all children. Has instructed virtually-schooled children during Covid with no dip in their grades. Can be goofy (when appropriate) and puts most people she comes into contact with in a better mood. Has made new friends in 5 minutes while getting coffee. Animals also love her and she even cooks organic for her dogs. I trust her implicitly."

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I started caring for kid's at 12, became a stay at home mom at 21, and maintained caring for other children for the past 21 year's. I love what I do!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing picnics. Taking trips to the zoo and revolving activities what is being taught. I love reading and teaching through play. I enjoy going to parks and exploring nature. Kid's get so excited by what they can find and become more confident through exploring and finding creatures like spider's becoming less afraid. I love seeing a chils confidence and self-esteem thrive in overcoming little fears that can grow into big fears with age.
I also like having them help with cleaning up after themselves and taking pride in taking care of their surroundings.

The most important part about being a nanny...

To me it's to love, protect, nurture and guide them.

My experience with special needs children...

Both of my son's are ADHD, the oldest one being on the Autistic spectrum. I have taken every class that has been offered not just to become a better parent, but to better understand their needs, and in doing so I've had the pleasure of helping other families when daycare was no longer an option. These kid's are super smart but just learn differently, they just require more time and a lot of patience. But are so capable of achieving everything!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have so many, but my favorite I'd have to say is accomplishing something that was once hard, whether it be reading,writing, recognizing and using the potty, or tying their shoes. I love the excitement and celebrating their achievements.
