I ran youth programs for many years, coordinating programs while also working directly with kids every day. I raised two wonderful daughters and was the mom whose house was always full of neighborhood kids. I’ve always loved having kids around and being part of their lives!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Anything outdoors- hiking, playing at the park, exploring beaches, etc. I also love to share my love of reading and drawing with kids.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important thing about being a nanny is making a child feel safe, loved, and understood. Every child is different, and I think it’s important to be patient, get to know their individual needs, and help them feel confident and secure while having fun along the way.
My experience with special needs children...
Raising a highly sensitive child with sensory integration challenges taught me so much about children and their individual needs. My daughter felt emotions deeply and often struggled to regulate them, sometimes having multiple intense meltdowns a day. Supporting her required patience, empathy, and a willingness to understand the world from her perspective. I drew on my degree in psychology and human development, continued learning through reading, and gained invaluable insight through her therapy. The experience taught me a great deal about emotional regulation, sensory needs, and the importance of meeting children where they are..
The most important part about being a nanny...
Too many to list. For many years, I was lucky enough to drive groups of kids to trails throughout Whatcom County where we would run and play in nature. Best job ever!
