The most important part about being a nanny...
I love kids more than I’ve loved anything in this world, seriously. To quote a great woman, I believe the children are our future. I’m a person who had a harsh childhood, I treat children how I wish someone had treated me. I yearn to be a mother one day but I want to be a good one so I know I’ll have to be patient and not rush into things like my mother did with me. So until then, I want to care for as many kids as I possibly can before I’m blessed with my own.
My experience with special needs children...
I babysat my autistic cousin for seven years and I still babysit her every now and then to this day. I taught her how to eat, read, communicate and she was my whole world.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The first time I got my cousin Toni to eat food. She’s severely autistic and so she refused to eat ANY solid foods for the first 5 years of her life. Well, one day I had made one of my favorite meals, green beans and potatoes. And Toni had a tendency to stand over people while they ate, watch them and start stimming. But she NEVER wanted any, it was almost as if she was scared of it 😂
So, this particular night, I’d made the food and she was doing exactly that. I made a habit out of offering her food, hoping one day she’d take it. I held my fork up, asker her “you want some mama?” And she finally took a bite!! I literally screamed so loud that I scared her! I immediately FaceTimed her mother, offered her some more, and that was the night she finally started eating solid food! I’ll never forget that 🥹
