A little bit about me

Hi! I'm Jessica, but I usually go by Jess! I've had experience working with children as I was in Teacher Academy at Petal High School for 3 years, 2 years as a student and 1 year as a Teacher Assistant as well as taking a Family Dynamics and Child Development class my freshmen year. During Teacher Academy, my class mainly wanted to work with K-2 kids so we would drive to Petal Primary School to observe and help teachers in their classrooms. We also would drive to the Center for Families and Children and help with pre-school aged children.
Ever since I was young, I rememeber all of the jobs I wanted to do revolved around helping and caring for others. Whether I decided I wanted to be a doctor for that week, a nurse, a teacher, or even a janitor. My life mission is to help any and everyone I can because I believe we all need help sometimes, and there's not enough people willing to do that these days.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I've done volunteer work with children when I was in high school through a program called Teacher Academy. We would visit places like Petal Primary School and the Center for Families and Children and my class was tasked with observing students/children and helping them when needed. I also have experience from my Family Dynamics and Child Development classes I took through my high school. On top of that, I've babysat for my aunt and uncle as well as taken care of my brother who is special needs.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Coloring, dancing/listening to music, teaching basic life skills, tutoring, and anything else you throw at me!

The most important part about being a nanny...

What matters to me is that I'm able to have fun with the kids I'm with. I don't want them to feel like I'm there to punish them or watch their every move because kids have the right to privacy just like adults, but they need more guidance and help when it comes to having moments to themselves. They deserve to start learning at an early age that they can be independent even if it's in something as small as putting their toys away.

My experience with special needs children...

My brother is Autistic, so I have experience with children with autism and how to handle them. As well as down syndrome and other special needs. I am very patient and willing to let them take their time to calm down if a "shutdown moment" occurs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I remember when I was at the Center for Families and Children, one of the kids was running after I had warned him he could fall and get hurt. He ended up tripping and falling, but instead of getting upset and crying, he got up and said "My daddy said if I fall I have to get back up because if not I'll just stay on the floor forever" and I thought that was funny!
