More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
The two toddlers I mention in my about me section that I was a nanny for were quite challenging. They only spoke Spanish and I only speak English. But after about two months there using Spanish and English flash cards, having dance parties for wannabe PE, singing and cleaning, etc- I really made a difference. The only reason I stopped working for them was because they were having me get up at 3AM and taking me home at anywhere from 9 to 11PM as well as severely severely underpaying me. I love children and hard work and think picking up nannying again will make a big positive change since I’ve been needing something more to do and my family needs financial help.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
With my first job, the two boys (2yrs old, and 5yrs old) they loved it when I would turn on Chuck E Cheese concerts and Marshmellow songs and then I would get up and dance with them for almost an hour. I love including the toddlers in everything I do whether it’s letting them watch me clean and pretending like they’re my assistant or narrating while I cook because it makes them feel important. I like pretty much doing everything- I hope to be a mom someday.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Being a good one. Which is a nuanced statement but I want to be a mom someday and I know how important it is to have someone you can count on and trust around your baby/babies.
My experience with special needs children...
The two year old I care for had I believe two different genetic things but I don’t know precisely what because his mother and father did not wish to admit that they were drinking and partying so late into the pregnancy, however he was at the advancement level of a baby who just turned one even though when I met him he was already about to be three. Helping him and treating him with sensitivity but also showing him he can do more and putting in that extra time made a big difference because he barely could say single words and then when I left he could manage full sentences happily.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I was hired by the family it was a coworker of my dad’s who watched me grow up and couldn’t afford a regular nanny because their five year old was locking them out and destroying their property. Day one of the job the boy tried to lock me out by throwing the special needs two year olds ball just outside of the doorway and when he did so, I giggled and found a butter knife in the driveway nearby and simply unlocked the door and the looks on his face was amazing. The baby was sitting on the stairs so shocked. I wasn’t mad or anything it was just amusing and me and that five year old ended up growing quite close and he stopped acting out.

My most significant strength in working with youth is that I am able to empathize and be patient. This is evident in times assisting children while they are dysregulated or experiencing doubt, fear, or sadness, and then finding ways to help them regulate their emotions by helping them to feel safe and understood. I utilize various techniques depending on the situation and have about an 8/10 success rate for children experiencing heighten fears or sensitivities to new or uncertain situations. Another important focus I value is to create an environment that promotes acceptance and kindness towards the self and others by promoting cooperation and support as well as curiosity and a balance between structure and a child based approach to learning.
