I've been a CNA, I have worked as and Advanced line therapist with autistic children with a company called WEAP, and I have volunteered with lots of church child cares.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Outside play of any kind! Getting kids to explore and use their imaginations. Tumbling and climbing is such fun with littles. Water play and sensory toys are the best when it comes to a hot day. Going to children's museums and art museums can be a great learning experience. Going for walks to new parks or just to explore the neighborhoods. Arts and crafts can be messy, but that why they make things washable!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Open communication with parents, so we can be on the same page on how they want their child raised and taught. When we can count on eachother to communicate about the childs need and whats going on, the child will thrive and feel great about their routines and schedules.
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for my God daughter with autism since she was born, she is now 11! It was crazy because I had just begun working at WEAP with autistic children when we found out her diagnosis. It was so special to learn about how she learned and what I needed to modify to help her learn and understand more.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Most of the time drop offs are hard for kids, but my last child would cry only when she had to go home. I would make me feel so good knowing she loved to be with me and my daughter at my house and want to come back every day! Also she would love to have silly dance parties ❤️.
Before my daughter was born I was a nanny to twins and their brothers and sister, sometimes it got hard to split my time between them all, but when they would say they wanted to keep me forever i knew I was doing an OK job 😋
Before that job I was a nanny to twin boys. I had some of my best times with them going to music classes and museums and libraries. Their mom said they wouldn't be the boys they are today if it hadn't been for me which makes me feel very proud, because they have turned into some smart awesome boys!
