A little bit about me

I am active and engaging. I love teaching children in a hands on tangible way that encourages children to explore and be creative in their own environment. It is important for me to help children learn autonomy. In my mind everything is a learning experience and a teachable moment. I am patient, calm, loving, and encouraging. I prefer screens to be off and minds to be engaged with the world around us as much as possible. I love going on "field trips" to the library, zoo, botanical gardens, children's museum, etc. I am first aid & CPR certified and I have a clear background check approved by the Ohio Departmen Of Job & Family Services. I have a Child Development Associate in the infant and toddler setting as well as the preschool setting. I have been in the ECED field for 30 years. I've had many roles in this field and I am now looking forward to partnering with the right family to love, play with, and care for their little ones as they grow.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have been a nanny, an Early Head Start Home Visitor, a childcare teacher for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, elementary students, a childcare center director, and more. I have been the school-age field trip leader where I trained staff how to safely run field trips. I have driven a 14 passenger seat bus to transport groups of children to cities from Cleveland, Akron, Sandusky and many cities in between. I have also been a learning coach for children kindergarten - 2nd grade using Ohio Virtual Academy. (A public homeschool program.) I have worked for the childcare center that I currently work at in every capacity over the past 20 years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love it all from messy art, science experiments, using the pots and pans as a drum set, building Legos, and learning the alphabet to going on field trips all around the area. I love turning every activity from washing hands to prepping lunch into a fun learning activity. I love grabbing a magnifying glass and going on a nature hike. Watching children explore the world around them in such a hands-on way is one of my favorite ways to spend the day!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Everything! Everything about being a nanny is important. I guess if I had to choose one thing I would say safety comes first. The center i currently work for only allows 3 rules to be posted in every classroom; be safe, be kind, be neat. (I always tell the kiddos that "have fun" is the unwritten rule!) I think that sums it up.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with children with autism, anxiety, ADHD, ODD, dyslexia, OCD, downs syndrome, seizures, and more. I am not an expert in any of these areas, but I do have experience and have taken basic trainings to help children with special needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

When the family that I nannied for, for 3 years moved to Minnesota I went with them for two weeks to work with the kiddos as the parents got everyone moved in and settled into their new home. Though the family had asked me to move with them, my mom had cancer at the time and I could not move. The day the family brought me to the airport to fly back home the boy I nannied for called my name as I was walking away to board the plane. I turned & looked at him and he said, "happy Valentines Day Jod!" 💝 I cried from the twin cities to Cleveland. That little boy is now in his 30's and has a sweet little girl of his own. I still talk with & get together with the whole family. Being a nanny is a unique experience. It's never just a job. It's a family. I have been very blessed.
