More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have worked with special needs children small children since I was 11 through the elementary in-school program during certain times of each day and I was certified and qualified, not only for infant toddler and child development and child care. I was also first aid qualified and a certified babysitter, through the Commonwealth of Virginia, plus I raised 4 children (2 boys and 2 girls) and I have taken care of, babysat and nannied babies, toddlers and children up to 14 years old in Virginia, North Carolina and California where I was living at the different times as active duty military. I was an only child and I understand the need and importance for both parents and the children that consistently and trust are often not available so as people needed someone they knew I would do the job right. I am happy to report that nobody's children, including my own. We're never put in danger and are all living Happy lives today. Thank you
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I like to read to them and play hide and go seek sometimes, sit with them and color or watch shows appropriate to them and their age or learning ability if it's a little bit younger than they are. I really enjoy asking questions along the way to help stimulate their mind. I want to encourage them to ask questions and challenge me in my mind and go through the thought process or the research process about getting to the source of fact. I am a huge science and history fan as well if that matters. Lol . Outdoors there's the park and weather permitting activities for stroller and walking ages. There's the walk around the block sometimes when there is that battle of staying awake or going to sleep. Doing some thing creative in the yard, make a game out of picking up pinecones or sticks in the yard to help clean the yard and make it fun and some families have the swing in the back so there's that option and so many more. I'm sure I'm not thinking of. It's a discussion that will be had.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I want to make sure that at any given point whether there's a phone call, check up or a nanny cam, or any other type of check in, that there is a sense of relief and security, knowing the child or children are being taken care of not getting in trouble and not making a mess And actually being watched and interacted with whether educationally or just goofing around, the proof is always in the pudding, one way or the other once the parents come home, and I want to have a clear conscience, knowing that I did the right thing when I lay my head down at night and feel confident that I'll get called back. Trust is key showing responsibility. Even as a grown man is still a necessary thing to prove because in this day and age, unfortunately older people aren't always the most reliable anymore. The camera system that I have in my home would be accessible by the parents if my home is needed to be used anytime so live feed and audio will always be available as I have no reason to not share that.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience working with mentally and physically challenged children in and out of the wheelchair. I have the patience and the energy that keeps them calm and feeling safe. I have high regard and respect for parents with strict or lenient, doesn't matter, rules, just rules in general that are important to them become important to me, because I want to be an extension of the parent not a change for the child to misbehave or create any falsehood between parent and child. If I have direction from a parent, I will follow that until further notice. If I have concerns questions or suggestions, I will call or text with a legitimate things since most of the smaller things are common sense. I respect boundaries and guidelines. I want to be a friendly person for the child to look up to and learn from, but strict enough to know they won't get away with anything or do anything without a parent knowing about it. I am big on communication and trust. I like to focus that I am dependable
The most important part about being a nanny...
The last little boy I babysat, he was tossing a tennis ball with me, and just as I underhand tossed the ball back he decides to look down and grab a dandelion out of the yard, and the ball hits him right in the face, but the shock was just that. He froze for a second and then ran over and gave me the dandelion, and then ran back giggling. Had he not been concentrating on some thing else the shock probably would have thrown him into a frenzy and of course the adult not reacting is probably the best thing for the child. Unless of course there's a real injury and then it's about not freaking out too bad. Sense of humor is the most important in my idea of dealing with children that could potentially be triggered later by something simple today because it was viewed as traumatic in the mind of that child. People don't realize how much they retain Or how things affect their thinking. So as long as there's nothing serious, laughing it off to me is OK, but also assess the situation
